SBU Food Pantry

Nationally 25-30% of undergraduate students struggle with a food insecurity, which is the lack of having access to enough food. Once we realized there was such a food insecurity problem within college students, we knew implementing a food pantry on campus was something we wanted to move forward with. Once we officially had a space for the pantry, McGinley-Carney Center for Franciscan Ministry (MCCFM) room 114, it became a reality that this was going to happen. We wanted to open it as soon as possible in hopes of being able to provide for the students who were staying on campus during mid-term break. The grand opening also coincided with the “Out of Darkness: Putting a Face on Homelessness” exhibit at the Quick Center. We currently have 30 volunteers which allows us to have the resources to have the pantry open every weekday. Generous individuals donated both a fridge and freezer to allow us to distribute perishable food items as well as non-perishables. Now that the pantry is officially open our goal is to welcome those who need the resource, continue to receive any donations (monetary or food donations) to continue to expand, and partner with clubs and organizations to implement the pantry within the Bonaventure Community. Thank you to everyone in advance for supporiting the food pantry, we cannot wait to see how the pantry continues to grow in the future!
