What has rugby given me?
As cliche as this has become around sports teams, joining SBURFC has given me a family, a home away from home. However, aside from all of the firends I have made and fun I have had since i have joined, the real thing the rugby team has shown me is that hard work is not so bad especially when you are doing it with thirty of your closest friends. The main thing I have seen in myself since joining is an enjoyment of hardwork and learning to do things completely for someone else because you know every other member of the team will do the same for you.
I transfered to St.Bonaventure in the fall of this year, and as it is with big change it was immensley difficult to get used to intially. Transferring anywhere has it's difficultiesbutthe close knit group of students one finds here at Bonas was especially hard to become a part of as an outsider. The first two weeks at Bonas I was homesick, confused as to why I left my old school in the first place, and maybe most of all eager to become apart of something. Right about then is when my roomate suggested we went to the club fair in the Richter to see if something caught my eye. As soon as we walked I looked around and my eyes were caught by a group of guys laughing and joking around together so I walked up and introduced my self and from that moment on I have had something to belong to. I was welcomed with open arms and as long as did my fair share I was treated as an equal even though I was just a beginer and had to learn everything about the game. Coaches took the time and slowed practices down to make sure I was understanding what was going on, the boys on the team were always quuck to help me out and were not afraid to stay afer or come early and help teach me the ropes of the game.
One of the things that has stuck me most about SBURFC is the alumni. Every alumni from the team I have met is always nothing but helpful and supportive and that was further proof to me I made the right choice in joining. The rugby team has quickly become a second family for me, we all look our for eachother and our interested in seeing eachother succeed because we all need to succeed for the program to continue to grow and be successful. If we can raise some money it would make our team only more competitive as the program continues to grow and improve while still maintaining the great tradition our alumni started.
